Dr Jeremy Simmonds

The University of Queensland

Jeremy is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Maron Ecology and Conservation Policy Lab at The University of Queensland. His major research focus is on how biodiversity offsets can be harnessed to deliver outcomes that contribute to the achievement of broad (i.e., national-level) biodiversity targets. This research is being performed as part of the Science for Nature and People Partnership (SNAPP) Compensatory Conservation working group.

In addition to biodiversity offsets, Jeremy is interested in landscape-level conservation and, particularly, the use of thresholds of habitat loss to guide conservation decision making. He has examined this topic using woodland birds of south-east Australia as a case study. He is also interested in approaches to conserving whole assemblages of species, with a focus on intact fauna communities.
